Understanding the enemy

As you’ve experienced, aging is a formidable enemy. Not only is it impossible to turn back time, it’s also impossible to journey back-in-time to take better care of your skin. This means that those long summers spent in the sun inevitably take their toll, as the harmful ultraviolet rays prematurely break down your skin.

This photoaging is also exacerbated by the natural loss of collagen and elastin in your skin, the two proteins responsible for supporting your tissue. When you enter your 30s, this decline begins, but slowly, at first.

Tightening up

The energy we deliver through the Lutromic Spectra^™ and the GentleMax Pro^® laser systems are well-tolerated by our clients, and the system features a built-in cooling system that keeps the surface of your skin comfortable throughout your treatment.

Each session takes less than an hour, and there’s no downtime afterward, which means you’re free to go about your day. You may experience some mild redness or swelling, but these typically resolve themselves quickly.

For optimal results, we recommend that you undergo several treatments, which we space apart by several weeks to allow time for the renewed collagen production to take effect. In most cases, results gradually reveal themselves with each treatment, with the best results about six to 12 weeks after your final treatment.

Pregnancy

Loose or sagging skin that occurs post-partum is particularly likely around the breasts and abdomen, where the skin stretches quickly.

Sun exposure.

The amount of ultraviolet exposure we’ve accumulated since youth probably contributes the most to the damaged collagen and elastin fibers in the skin’s dermal layer that accelerate sagging.

Aging

Collagen and elastin production slows down as we get older, causing more laxity. We also lose fat from above the bony structures in our face, which causes the skin to sag and form folds, lines, and jowls. Over time, gravity also takes a toll.

Does loose skin go away? 

The answer to this question depends on your age and how much loose skin you have. Laxity from age will become more pronounced without intervention, since it’s the result of reduced collagen, elastin, and fat, as well as gravity. If you’re in your 20s or 30s and dealing with loose skin from pregnancy or major weight loss, your skin should have enough elasticity so that any minor to moderate skin laxity may improve over time.

Very loose skin, especially from extreme weight loss (approximately 100 pounds or more), won’t go away on its own. Severe loose skin can be painful and cumbersome. It can even create complications from friction, moisture and difficulty keeping it clean. Because of this, many people choose to have it removed surgically.
